Did anyone see the Tribune's coverage of the scandal yesterday? It asked readers to describe in one word their reactions to the arrest, but unfortunately they have been removed. Most comments were fairly typical fare like "Brazen", "Overdue", "Shocking", or "Unsurprising". But there were some in the list that were hilarious, and it made for a highly entertaining read. Some I remember from memory:
"Bla-GONE"
"Haircut"
"...Bueller?"
"Uberdouchetastic"
"therapist"
"Appreciation!"
I really wish the list was still up.

I'm just as shocked about the JJJ allegations. There were years of bad blood there. The only way I could have seen it happening is if the offer of campaign funds for the seat was a sting and Jackson was in on it. The rumor bouncing arond here that note only was Blago wiretapped, but that on at least one occasion, there was a person at a closed door meeting with the governor wearing a wire. It also seems, from reading the complaint, that two of the candidates, 4 & 5, were willing to ante up, so Jones and Gutierrez aren't out of the woods just yet. I can't see any of the rest, except maybe Giannoulias, being willing to involve themselves in a scheme like this.

If that proves to be true (and I'm a little wary of leaks at this point, as they're most likely intended to sandbag one candidate or another) color me shocked.

Gutierrez and Jones were the first two I thought of when it became clear that one of the candidates (who are broadly recognized to be the ones you named) was going to play ball. This is very unlike JJJ, at least in the context of dealing with Blago. Their dislike for one another is intense.

Admittedly, nobody was really surprised that the axe finally chopped Blago's head off -- it's been hovering how long now...?

What really grabs me, is the flat-out ARROGANCE he displays in even assuming that a U.S. Senate seat (much less the one formerly occupied by the current PRESIDENT-ELECT!) could be SOLD for his personal financial gain!
Excuse my liberal usage of exclamation marks... but seriously, what in the fuck was he thinking? Moreover, he almost acted like a guy who wanted to get pinched. Why else would you wave the middle finger in the FED'S faces like this when you're already under such scrutiny and suspicion for various statewide indescretions? Pure vermin. Unfuckingreal.

Wow. Just...wow.

Bottom line: we can't elect a Governor for shit in this state.

Seems to me the "Senate Candidates" are/were Jan Schakowsky, Lisa Madigan, Jesse Jackson, Jr, Luis Gutierrez, and Emil Jones. Danny Davis, Jan Schakowsky, and Alexi Giannoulias are all on the periphery, as well. The trick here is that both Lisa Madigan and Giannoulias want the governorship, not the Seante seat. That being the case, I think there's a pretty good chance that Gutierrez and Jones were the two most willing to play ball.
