This is exactly the scenario the so many people have put their blinders on and are ignoring – hoping that things will 'fix themselves'. Well, they aren't going to – it's going to get worse before it gets better, but maybe then they'll see the reality of what we're facing.

I say a better plan would be to take that 'bailout money' and use it to push for job creating in areas that need it – infrastructure for example, education for another, renewables, etc. In other words – get it directly to the workers, rather than have it filtered through the morons that supposedly 'run' the major car manufacturers.

Did you see that ad they took out to 'thank the american public'? WTF???

I have to disagree, they don't even want us to have $5/hr jobs, that's why they keep fighting raising the minumum wage.
Other than that, your scenario may have some merit. I am about to the point where I say "Fuck it" let everything go down the shitter so that the idiot public will realize how fucked up the NeverRight-Wing policies really are.
Maybe then I would get my wish of seeing the Repugnicans become the Whigs of the 21st Century!!!!!

You were right. That was a long post, but certainly worth the read. If I had any faith in our society's ability to learn from the mistakes of others, I might be more inclined to see a silver lining to what's currently taking place. Sadly, I don't. This boils down to accountability, which is a trait that people always enjoy demanding to see in others, but rarely themselves. There's also complicity; if there's no oversight or regulation of businesses that hold such a significant stake in the country's economic well-being, then collective pain should not only be expected, but also deserved.

We let the banks and insurance companies steal trillions of dollars-I can't see why we wouldn't spend that much to save the auto industry. 30 to 40 percent tariffs on foreign cars should fix any issues with competition.
