Faith Based Cannes

In the wake of the success of Michael Moore's career, many people on the right are trying their hands at homemade documentaries. It's been fun for many magazines on the left to go to these right wing film-festivals and have a good hoot. There's another one this weekend. Sadly I have neither the time or the money or the assurances that I could even get in on my homemade ginandtacos.com press pass. However I, and you stting around at work awaiting the weekend, can visit the webpages of the main features and view their trailers.

If the Republican tent can be partitioned into those who would agree with the statements like "it is unfair that captial gains are taxed twice / HSAs will make people saavy consumers of health care" versus those who would say "these colors don't run / a marriage is between a man and a women" then these documentaries would fall into the second camp. The link is, when available, to the trailer; you can get back to the main page from there. Enjoy.

In the Face of Evil: Reagan’s War in Word and Deed

(trailer at top of page). I find it bizarre that the movie (and the promotional material such as the image above) has so many images of Reagan followed by Bin Laden and the burning towers, as, ya know, Reagan arranged for his training.

Fahrenhype 9/11
(trailer on left) Michael Moore gets under all these guys skins. This is one of the few trailers that looks professionally done, so that's a plus. However it's really just a montage of people calling Moore a liar. One thing that someone says, and I happily agree with it, is "The cure for bad speech is more speech [not less]." So I applaud their efforts, regardless of how bad they look.

Michael Moore Hates America
"A Documentary that tells the truth about a great nation." If you had to hold your breath until immigrants and a black man in a suit show up and say that with "hard work" you'll make it in this fair country, you wouldn't have to hold your breath long. Moore should have just debated this guy - he looks like the poorly aged frat guys of Chicago's Wrigleyville community.

Celsius 41.11 : The Temperature at Which the Brain Freezes
A sad piano plays over Michael Moore's voice talking over the image of the towers burning. Clever.

WMD: The Murderous Reign of Saddam Hussein
It's odd that a movie that makes the claim (i think, as there is no voice in the trailer, just a montage of mass graves, sad music and Hilliary Clinton at a ballgame) that Hussein had to go for being a mass murderer would be called WMD. I imagine you wouldn't want to draw attention to the utter lack of them in that thesis.
