Gee, I am sure glad they cleared that one up.

In case anyone was curious, or perhaps in doubt, it would seem that a new study confirms that a vast majority of university faculty claim to be "liberal."

In case you needed proof

Robert Lichter, a professor at George Mason University and a co-author of the study apparently find most shocking the fact that there is not a single discipline at the Univeristy level which can boast a majority of conservatives.

Apparently, now hold your breath because this is really going to come as a shock to you, Literature and Philosophy faculty were…..the most liberal.

Oh, and another point, the better the university, the more liberal its faculty is. This is um…well…not actually all that interesting.

"are based on a survey of 1,643 full-time faculty at 183 four-year schools"

Which means they asked 9 professors per college in their study if they "thought homosexuality was acceptible." –> ~2,000 colleges in the country.

means that they have represented 0.8 professors per school.

"The study … was funded by the Randolph Foundation, a right-leaning group that has given grants to …Americans for Tax Reform."

Gee, Lichter's shocked that people who have, as a group, decided to forsake the fiscal rewards of the private sector for the relative penury of a life of secular servitude are mostly…liberals? That folks who, in order to be good at their jobs, read and take seriously a wide assortment of texts, philosophies, cultures and ideologies are more…liberal? That an environment built around providing a service to kids when they're at their most intellectually and socially rebellious tends to attract people who don't mind such an environment, and who are therefore, mostly likely…liberal? Yep, sure is shocking. Couple more news-flashes, Prof. Lichter: Water is Wet and the Earth revolves around the Sun.

it's not just that….it's defining 'liberal' as a cultural value. And as a weak set of standards. "Homosexuality is acceptible" – "somewhat in favor of abortion" – my dad, who is in no way liberal, would check both of those boxes. In theory, people who watch will and grace would check that.

i can't imagine that 50% of Harvard Business School professors are anything approaching 'liberal' – no matter how much they don't hate homosexuals.

The idea that 50% of the econ/business faculty at any school is liberal is proof enough of how completely ridiculous this "survey" is.

  5. Matt Says:

Literature and Philosophy are the two most liberal majors?

Bam! Who's got both of those?

    That'd be me, oh yeah.
